Portsmouth hosted the climax to the Cutty Sark Tall ships race from the 15th - 18th August 2002. Most of the tall ships entered Portsmouth from 12th - 14th August, the picture above illustrates one of the tall ships entering Portsmouth Harbour on 14th August 2002. During the four day period the tall ships were open to the public free of charge and the celebrations culminated on the 18th August 2002 with a parade of sail. The tall ships made their way out of the harbour to complete a parade which was witnessed by tens of thousands of people.
