The high temperatures brought visitors flocking to the International Festival Of the Sea 2001 in Portsmouth. The visitor numbers were in tens of thousands for each day of the festival. There was something for everyone at the festival including concerts, entertainers and of course the tall ships and naval craft.
The above picture shows a parachute display where the RAF display team parachuted down onto Whale Island in Portsmouth. The picture below shows the USS Winston S. Churchill which was recently commissioned and on its first visit to the UK. |
One of the other major attractions apart from the USS Winston S. Churchill was the British aircraft carrier. There was a large number of tall ships and smaller sailing ships a view across the festival below shows the crowds of people and some of the tall ships.
